By the way, the green light seems to blink in a 4-pattern, indicating loader.bin not launched, but loader. - I also purchased my Rpi from allied electronics along with their starter kit which had a case, sd card, power supply, hdmi cable etc...

As a workaround I think reboot helped, but it was eventually fixed by a kernel upgrade.
