Error - 1002 Hanging Application Outlook.exe

Every so often (10-15 minutes), my Outlook crashes and displays the usual "Serious Error.. My problem is I'm getting Outlook hangs which not only won't clear using task manager, but won't even allow a clean logoff. i had the problem on the pc for a longer time. I haven't run in safe mode just because its totally random, and may happen anywhere from daily to 3 or 4 days apart.
