SS June 9, 2009 | I have a Toshiba 215 and received an error 10-FC12-045D when trying to use the second recovery disc. So I changed the bios to boot from the CD first, rebooted with the recovery CD and everything went fine. It even had the same FW level as the original drive. I have put in 3 different hard drives, and 2 different sets of restore disk (1 Vista 32 bit and 1 Vista 64 bit) All combinations give the 10-FC12-0570 Error. useful reference

What is the model number of your Toshiba computer? I received a 10-FC12-0017 error. I was coming back from school one day, and I turned on my laptop and it was blue with a bunch of numbers and stuff and said it was deleting physical
It ran fine and I ran chkdsk /f /r and found no bad sectors. Just out of curiosity, how or why does my hd has/have Sector Relocation errors? The hard drive wasn’t acting or sounding bad. This took over 24 hours on the 250GB drive but I wanted to start totally clean and I wanted something that would touch all sectors.

So for example the area for track 3 of the CD gets damaged, the drive remaps the track to a blank section and gives it the label of track 3. All 32-bit version OEM and Toshiba Recovery Disk installs failed with this error. From what I understand the drive was functioning perfectly, until linux was installed on the machine. Laptop condition is relatively new, gets sufficient bottom ventilation. BUT, I had the Vista CD it came with, started that in the beginning, loaded it and said the free space in my HDD was 149 of 149..

- The average user can get away with a smaller drive.Brand - Typically I go with the brand that is offering the best warranty.Also don't throw that old drive away.

If you have many windows open at one time and store lots of stuff on the drive and you need speed, the SSD drives are the fastest drives. I've read a lot of forums and they are 50/50 that it is the hard drive, a lot of them installed a new hard drive and had the same error message, It is working without the error message, so I think you are on to something, because I didn't think it would work either. I also think Vista sucks. Using a Vista 64-bit OEM disk, I could get the OS installed. Well, the recovery went find until disk 2 went into the recovery process and hit about 30%. It failed with a “cannot install on this hardware error.” At this point I knew something was up.
